Vermicomposting

What is worm humus compost?

Worm compost is a type of organic fertilizer that is produced through the process of vermicomposting, using Californian red worms (Eisenia foetida). These worms break down organic matter, such as food scraps and plant waste, and turn it into a nutrient-rich product called worm humus or vermicompost.

As a result of the metabolic activity of earthworms breaking down organic matter, worm castings are a premium fertilizer packed with nutrients. They are dark brown in color and have a loose texture similar to coffee grounds or forest soil.

In this image we can see the worms from VidaViva Ecofood's vermicomposting.

Explanatory video on vermicomposting in VidaViva Ecofood

Vermicomposting is the method used to produce worm castings. Because it has a large appetite, adapts to various climates and reproduces quickly, the Californian red worm (genus Eiseda) is frequently used for this.

Household organic waste can be reduced by up to 60% through vermicomposting, which also turns it into a valuable product for pots or gardens. As a result, we will produce less waste and at the same time use it more efficiently.

For a better explanation of vermicomposting in our company, we would like you to watch the video on the left, which explains what vermicomposting is, how we do it at VidaViva Ecofood, what its benefits are, among other very interesting things. It is a video made to show a way of taking care of the soil of our crops so that it does not affect the environment, to show an effective tool to obtain ecological compost and above all to inform and teach about sustainable agriculture.
